About

Who We Are

Food for Friends Fridays was created by Florence, a 7-year-old passionate about food justice. After volunteering at food distributions in her neighborhood, she realized that kids could play a bigger role in helping their communities. She started this initiative to involve families and children in solving food insecurity, one meal at a time.

What started as a small idea is growing into something bigger—a citywide effort to connect families, schools, and communities through food and kindness.

Why It Matters

  • 1 in 4 New Yorkers is food insecure.
  • Families want to help but don’t always know how.
  • Small actions create big change—one meal can make someone’s day.
  • Kids learn by doing! This program helps children become leaders in their communities.
